Bigbury Island Climate Assembly 2022

Sixty invited delegates will meet at the Island Assembly on Burgh Island.

The purpose of the event is to encourage community groups to link up with local government support to

Between 1.30 pm and 2.00 pm John Tucker will be writing ACT NOW on the beach with his tractor. Mike Wynne Powell will be filming the action with his drone.  The Island Assembly delegates in Burgh Island Hotel will come onto the terrace outside the Nettlefold to show their willingness to heed his message.  Please come to the beach and show your support around 1.30 to 2.0pm on the day, by standing on the letters, like you did at the Beach Assembly in November.  Keep clear until John has finished his writing please.  The Pilchard Inn is closed but the  Venus Cafe is open for hot drinks and lunch from 10.00 am to 4 pm.

THE GOLF ASSEMBLY – Thursday 24th Feb evening
If you want to “do something to reverse the decline in nature and reduce our carbon footprints” – then please REGISTER for this event.  Numbers are strictly limited to 50 people.  If demand is high, further events will be organised.
Speakers at the Golf Assembly will be: Farhana Yamin (climate change lawyer and Chair of BNZ), Peter Brown (Chair of Yealm Community Energy Project) and Lynne Kenderdine (Devon Wildlife Trust – Avon Valley Project) and a recorded special message to community groups in South Hams from Nigel Topping.  Nigel is the UN High-Level Champion for the United Kingdom.   He recognises the urgent need for community climate & nature groups to team up and ACT NOW.

Open Letter to Our MPs
We are reaching out to everyone in Devon to sign the Open Letter to our MPs asking them again to support the passage of the CEE Bill.  In 2021, Devon County Council, 6 of the 7 District Councils in Devon and 50 of our Parish Councils voted to send a letter to their respective MPs requesting them to support the CEE Bill.  They refused, siting irrelevant issues. We need our elected MPs to listen to their Electorate’s Voices and
